Jackson Mayor Dobies Calls On Congressman Walberg To Put Country Over Party, Vote to Impeach President Trump

Mayor Dobies Says Failure By Members of Congress To Vote To Impeach After Incitement of Armed Insurrection Is “Inherently Unconscionable and a Profile in Cowardice”

Jackson, MI — As the House of Representatives moves forward with an article of impeachment against President Donald Trump for “incitement of insurrection” for urging his supporters to march on the Capitol last Wednesday, Jackson Mayor Derek Dobies today implored Congressman Tim Walberg to vote to impeach the President in the following statement:

“Years of misinformation and disinformation culminated in the incitement of insurrection last week that is an absolute dereliction of duty by the President and his political co-conspirators,” said Jackson Mayor Derek DOBIES. “Congressman Walberg must put country over party by taking a bipartisan vote to impeach President Trump. To fail to do so at this critical moment in our nation’s history — after an event that damaged our nation’s reputation, threatened our democratic institutions, and led to property damage and the unfortunate loss of life — is inherently unconscionable and a profile in cowardice.”

The House plans vote on the impeachment measure Wednesday morning after considering legislation Tuesday night that calls on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.

Congressman Walberg was one of four Michigan Republican congressmen who signed onto a legal brief in support of the GOP-backed lawsuit filed by Texas seeking to challenge the election results in Michigan and three other battleground states. The Supreme Court threw out the case.

And only hours after armed rioters incited by the president had been routed from the U.S. Capitol, Congressman Walberg was one of three Michigan lawmakers persevering in their efforts to delegitimize Joe Biden’s victory. Congressman Tim Walberg, joined by U.S. Reps. Lisa McClain and Jack Bergman, voted to disallow presidential electors certified by Republican-majority state legislatures in Arizona and Pennsylvania.

The City of Jackson is the birthplace of the Republican Party and the largest municipality in Congressman Walberg’s congressional district.
